Previous AGM Outcomes

Our last five Annual General Meetings were held between Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington. We've summarised some of the highlights here.

2023

Held solely via Zoom on Friday, 24 November 2023, attended by 17 members. This was the second AGM held solely via live-stream.

The Financial Statements and Annual Report were shared with members. A presentation was also shared with members, advising them of the Project Thrive work being carried out.

2023 Election Results

National Board Members: Maureen McCloy, Mark Ebrey and Luke Tarplett were elected for three year terms.

Honorary Vice-Presidents: As no nominations had been received, these positions remain vacant.

2022

Held solely via Zoom on Friday, 25 November 2022, attended by 22 members.

This was the first AGM following the sale of YHA's owned properties. The Financial Statements and Annual Report were shared with members and further discussion was had.

2022 Election Results

National Board Members: Ian Lothian and Vivien Jones were elected for three year terms.

Honorary Vice-Presidents: As no nominations had been received, these positions remain vacant.

2021

Held in Wellington at the West Plaza Hotel on Saturday, 27 November 2021, attended by 32 members. The meeting was also live-streamed via Zoom.

A Special General Meeting was held prior to the AGM, whereby members were advised about the future direction of YHA New Zealand. Members were advised that the YHA-managed hostels were taking no further bookings from 15 December 2021 and will be closed by 23 December 2021. The future stand of YHA would be determined in 2022.

Following the AGM, members caught up with one another whilst enjoying some lunch.

2021 Election Results

National Board Members: Nancy Ward and Hayley Groves were re-elected for three year terms.

Honorary Vice-Presidents: As no nominations had been received, two positions remain vacant.

2020

Held in Christchurch at the Aldersgate Centre on Saturday, 20 March 2021, attended by 30 members. The meeting was also live-streamed via Zoom.

Following the AGM, members caught up with one another whilst enjoying some light refreshments.

Awards

The Chair advised that Ray Salter had been nominated for an Honorary Life Membership. After being presented with the certificate and medal, Ray expressed his gratitude for the award.

Honorary Vice-Presidents: As no nominations had been received, two positions remain vacant.

2019

Held in Auckland at the Grand Millennium Hotel on Saturday, 2 November 2019, attended by 37 members. The meeting was also live-streamed to our YHA New Zealand Members Facebook Group.

The Friday night dinner also took place at the Grand Millennium Hotel.

Following the AGM, many members stayed on to take part in a Membership and Governance Review Workshop.

Awards

The Chair advised that Kevin Brewer had been nominated for an Honorary Life Membership. After being presented with the certificate and medal, Kevin expressed he was humbled by the award.

2019 Election Results

National Board Members: Ross Butler and Nancy Ward were elected for three year terms.

Honorary Vice-Presidents: Dave Berry and Bruce Ward were elected unopposed.

2018

Held in Christchurch at the Novotel Hotel on Saturday, 27 October 2018, attended by 50 members.

The Friday night dinner also took place at the Novotel Hotel.

The AGM was successfully live-streamed for the first time to our YHA New Zealand Members Facebook Group. We also presented one of our Honorary Life Members, Gwyn Rogers, with flowers for her 90th Birthday.

Awards

The Chair advised that John Hammond had been nominated posthumously for an Honorary Life Membership. The Chief Executive and National Secretary presented the certificate to John's wife, Erin, in the following months.

2018 Election Results

National Board Members: Hayley Groves and Mark Ebrey were elected for three year terms.

Dispute Resolution: The notice of motion in relation to the Dispute Resolution clause was passed with 85% of votes in favour.

Honorary Vice-Presidents: As no nominations had been received, these positions remain vacant.

2017

Held in Wellington at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa on Saturday, 28 October 2017, attended by 68 members.

The Friday night dinner took place at the Copthorne Hotel.

The major discussion points were the new hostel being constructed at Lake Tekapo, the future of YHA Opoutere, the future of membership, and the timeframes for the next full review of the Constitution.

Awards

Avis Robertson received the Distinguished Service Award. Gordon Solloway accepted it on her behalf, from Board Member Hayley Groves.

2017 Election Results

National Board Members:Jaya Prasannan and Ken Griffin were elected for three year terms. 

Honorary Vice-Presidents: Dave Berry and Bruce Ward were elected unopposed.

2016

Held in Auckland at the Mercure Hotel on Saturday, 29 October 2016, attended by 58 members.

The Friday night dinner took place at the Mercure Hotel.

AGM attendees were the first guests at YHA Auckland City after its major refurbishment. Hostel Manager Steve Collier organised a hostel tour for all interested parties and enjoyed the positive feedback.

Awards

Board Member Kevin Brewer presented a Certificate of Merit to Barbara Pollard from Auckland.

2016 Election Results

National Board Members: Ray Salter and Darren Burden were elected for three year terms. 

Honorary Vice-Presidents: Dave Berry, Bruce Ward and Harry Guitry were all elected unopposed.
